Flexibility
Nitrogen supply tailored to requirements
With PIADIN® neo, organic fertilisers can be applied early in the season, whilst the soil is still cool and damp, without the risk of nitrogen losses in the form of nitrates. PIADIN® neo allows split applications to be combined. Thanks to the delayed formation of nitrates, you can apply slurry and digestate in a single pass, depending on the crop, thereby reducing the number of passes required.
As PIADIN® neo stabilises the nitrogen in the root zone as ammonium and the risk of nitrogen losses is virtually non-existent, slurry and digestate can be applied very early on, immediately after the end of the application ban period, taking advantage of soils that are capable of bearing and absorbing the fertiliser. Naturally, care must be taken to ensure that, in accordance with good agricultural practice, the timing of fertilisation is adapted to the plants’ requirements. The resulting longer potential application window for all crops – but particularly for maize and sugar beet – increases flexibility and allows for early clearance of storage space.

Your benefits
Making organic fertilisation successful – PIADIN® neo slows down the conversion of ammonium to nitrate. However, this conversion is never completely inhibited. This allows the plant to draw on both forms of nitrogen as and when required. This ensures optimal plant nutrition. It increases yield and quality: a perfect basis for high N efficiency. Furthermore, fertiliser applications can be combined, thereby increasing flexibility.
- Higher yields
- Combining slurry applications reduces peak workloads
- Greater flexibility through the possibility of earlier fertilisation dates
- Higher nitrogen efficiency through reduced N losses

Environment
Environmental safety
Nitrogen available as and when required – a key factor in achieving greater nitrogen efficiency and better environmental protection in agriculture.
Better water quality
The PIADIN® neo slurry conditioner can reduce nitrate leaching from the root zone by up to 50 per cent. Less nitrate in surface waters and groundwater – a clear benefit for the environment.
PIADIN® neo reduces N2O emissions by 75%
A better climate
Nitrous oxide is a greenhouse gas that has an impact on the climate and is around 300 times more harmful than carbon dioxide. The PIADIN® neo manure conditioner reduces nitrous oxide emissions by up to 75 per cent. This makes a real contribution to climate protection.

Effect on root development
It has been scientifically proven that a plant nutrition regime rich in ammonium can lead to significantly more intensive lateral root development. This effect is also utilised when ammonium levels are stabilised through the use of PIADIN® neo. This improves both the plants’ ability to take up water and their ability to absorb nutrients.
Making organic fertilisation efficient
Here’s how it works:
PIADIN® neo is a branded product from SKW Stickstoffwerke Piesteritz and is based on decades of research. Following application of organic fertilisers, the ammonium nitrogen is completely converted into nitrate nitrogen within one to two weeks. Nitrate nitrogen is highly mobile, and there is a high risk of it being displaced or even leaching out in a way that is harmful to the environment – as well as of losses due to denitrification. Unlike nitrate nitrogen, ammonium nitrogen is exchangeably bound to clay-humus complexes; it cannot be leached out or transported and is available to the plants in the root zone at any time, as and when required. The plant can draw nutrients from both ammonium and nitrate simultaneously. This prevents excessive uptake and stops crops from becoming overgrown.
In the right place at the right time
Stabilised nitrogen remains available to plants and is lost to a minimal extent, even in unfavourable weather conditions. In wet conditions, stabilised nitrogen is protected against leaching and nitrous oxide losses. In dry conditions, it is always available to plants in the root zone.
Advantages of ammonium fertilisation
The uptake of ammonium releases H+ ions in the area close to the roots. This slightly lowers the pH there. Phosphate and micronutrients become more readily available and are additionally utilised by the plant.

Yield
PIADIN® neo: Higher yield – greater efficiency
Nitrogen available as and when required – a key factor in achieving greater nitrogen efficiency and improved environmental protection in agriculture.
PIADIN® neo should be applied within 7 days before or after the application of slurry or digestate. PIADIN® neo can be incorporated into the soil together with the organic fertiliser. The best results are achieved when PIADIN® neo is applied in a single operation alongside the organic fertiliser. If you have any specific questions regarding the application of PIADIN® neo, please do not hesitate to contact our technical advisory service. PIADIN® neo is available in a range of transport packaging – including 20-litre canisters, 200-litre drums and 1,000-litre IBC containers – to suit all requirements. PIADIN® neo can be combined with all organic fertilisers that contain high levels of ammonium nitrogen or in which the nitrogen is rapidly mineralised (for example, slurry, biogas digestate, liquid manure and dried chicken manure). The use of PIADIN® neo is all the more beneficial the more nitrogen is applied in a single application and the longer the interval between fertilisation and the peak nutrient requirement.
Special application: PIADIN® neo with Strip Till
Under-till fertilisation methods such as strip till offer the best ways to reduce ammonia losses. Applying fertiliser in strips at a depth of 12 to 20 cm prevents unpleasant odours and avoids nutrient losses due to erosion. However, without PIADIN® neo, nitrous oxide losses may occur. PIADIN® neo is particularly effective when used with these methods. The ammonium reserves in the soil are stabilised over long periods, ensuring a sustainable and balanced supply of nutrients. When used in the strip-till method, 1.5 l/ha of PIADIN® neo is sufficient.
